This event happened just two or three days after the publication by International Dark -Sky Association of great news from the City of Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue: it has just adopted a Regulation to limit light pollution. IDA Québec and RASC ( Royal Astronomical Society of Canada)-Montreal Centre have joined forces and made several presentations to the elected officials of this municipality in the West of the Island of Montreal for this regulation to be implemented.
Everything was similar to other years, except that we noticed more visitors and exhibitors. Among them, Hydro Westmount, represented by its own Director, Mr. Benoit Hurtubise. At their booth one could speak of the conversion to LED street lighting in the City of Westmount. This year, the famous “Washington” lighting fixtures, part of the historical image of the City of Westmount, were equipped with a special system of visual protection requested by the City. Without seeing it running, we cannot comment on the effectiveness of this new system, but we want to highlight the City’s efforts to find a solution acceptable to them and their citizens.
