LightSavers is a Canadian Urban Institute program. They are presenting themselves as “a national market consortium that aims to step up the adoption of LED lighting and smart adaptive controls in certain general illumination applications”.

aqtrWe have had a very busy end of March. We will use the opportunity offered by this week to share with you some of our activities.

 

The 25th: The Congress of AQTR

 

AQTR (Association Québécoise des Transports et des Routes) was reunited in the Palais de Congrés of Montréal from the 25th to the 27th to hold its 48th Congres. Mr. Jean Bachkongi, eng. (SMi Group) and Mihai Pecingina, eng. (SMi Group and President of IDA Québec) presented in front of about 30 people the conference “Outdoor lighting and road transport: aesthetics, safety and sustainable development”. A presentation asking for a minute of reflection before taking a decision on the outdoor lighting and recommending the choice of a lighting expert in order to obtain a solution being in the same time aesthetical, safe and environmental friendly.

The 23rd: Earth Hour

 

It has become a tradition to see IDA Quebec in Westmount during the Earth Hour. Pierre Tournay and Mihai Pecingina responded again “present” on this year’s appeal of Anthony Moffat and “Westmount healthy city” committee.

This year, the guest speakers were Dr. Marc Garneau, MP for Westmount and Prof. Ph. D. Martin Aubé from Sherbrooke CEGEP.

The 3rd Municipal Meeting of the Energy by AQME

IMG_0732The third Municipal Meeting of the Energy was held the 4th and the 5th of April in “Espace Shawinigan”, a beautiful building, formerly the first electrical aluminum smelter which produced in 1901 the first Canadian aluminum ingot.

As usual, the meeting was an excellent opportunity to take the pulse of the municipal world of Quebec and talk about outdoor lighting and light pollution.

A lot of interest was shown; a lot of people stopped on IDA Quebec’s booth to better understand the problem of the light pollution.

International Dark Sky Week

IDA-PosterThis week, between the 5th and the 11th of April, we’re celebrating the International Dark Sky Week.

All activity that promotes the Dark-Sky is important for all of us and we will publish the photos of your participation in one of these activities on IDA Quebec’s site.

IDA Quebec recommends you:

–          join an astronomy club and participate to a stargazing

–          take pictures of the sky

–          visit the newly opened Rio-Tinto Alcan Planetarium (the new building) in Montreal

–          participate on the “Globe at night” campaign (that will finish the 9th of April

–          Share with other people your knowledge on light pollution.

Any other idea is welcomed and will be suggested to our readers.
