For IDA Quebec, 2012 was a year of expanding and having our values evolve, doubled by a hard work to develop a new policy for members and sponsors and to provide tools on the path of developing a new regulation, more modern and harmonized with the global trends and the needs of our concrete realities.

IDA Quebec also continued active promotion of the nighttime environment through individual actions or in collaboration with organizations having similar missions.

Five years already! The symposium on the white LED lighting

RICEMM logoMore than a week ago (the 11th of December) the Astrolab and the Cegep of Sherbrooke organized the symposium « Problématiques et solutions relatives à l’éclairage aux DEL blanches » – “Problems and solutions related to white LED lighting”.

 Just few days before, the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) set the ground with a special issue of their “Journal” dedicated to the “Environmental Impact of Light Pollution and its Abatement”.

 After the welcome words of Mrs. Marie-France Bélanger, executive manager with the Cegep of Sherbrooke and Chloé Legris, Mr. Pierre Goulet and Sébastien Giguère – both from Mont-Megantic (the Director and the scientific coordinator), have presented the International Dark-Sky Reserve and the light pollution issues.

All the PowerPoint or Prezi presentations are available on the AstroLAB’s site in french with just one exception, where the speaker was from Ontario.

For Holydays: the MLO in French and the new membership policy

The month of December starts strong for IDA Quebec. Apart from its participation in the symposium organized by the International Dark-Sky Reserve of Mont-Megantic (which will be discussed later in more detail), IDA Quebec launches today, online, the French version of the “Model Lighting Ordinance – MLO”. IDA Quebec’s inside committee namely Mihai Pecingina, Patrick Martineau, Eric Ladouceur and Mathieu Gillet have limited themselves to the translation, the only additions being the details of abbreviations of the U.S. agencies mentioned in the original English document.

The French version can be downloaded from the “Publications” section of our site, the same place as the original version.

A special note and thanks to the Association Québécoise pour la Maitrise de l’Énergie (AQME) whom supported the committee, have collaborated and ensured the graphical presentation of the document.
